I’m a locksmith and safe engineer working in the South-West of London. I’ve been in science and engineering all my working life. Mind you, my working life didn’t really start until I was thirty. It took me that long to figure out that I didn’t really want to work in the field of my degree — chemistry — but preferred tinkering with computers. That tinkering became profitable when I discovered that I was good at running commercial training courses. Then I got competitive and began to work hard. Mind you that was also the time that I got a family. Who knows which was the greater spur to earning some proper money.
Well after twenty years my computing subject (or perhaps my brain) ran out of steam, so a few years ago I got a shed and a van, and went back to working with mechanics — with locks and safes.
