Safe Services
The safe most likely to be giving trouble to a blog reader is the small domestic kind of safe that you can get from Homebase, B&Q, etc., for between £50 and £90. And the most likely trouble it will be giving is that it has stopped opening. The bad news is that there probably won’t be a way to open and repair it that wouldn’t cost more than just buying another one; the good news is that we can at least get it open for you.
It is possible, however, that you have a small but perfectly formed safe (i.e. it’s a proper security safe). These will have cost a few hundred pounds and at the upper end of the price range will be worth taking the time to open non-destructively or to repair after opening. The other thing with a proper security safe is to get it serviced, especially if you have taken it over or if it is getting on in years. Far better to spend less than £100 on a service than to spend many times that on opening and possibly repairing it should it refuse to open one day.
