Special Offers
There are some common jobs that are fairly predictable and that don't usually take too long. There are also some jobs that are very important. So we're running a trial offering some of these jobs at less than the usual minimum charge.
Break-glass fire boxes
You shouldn't deadlock a final exit door. If you feel you must, however, then you should have a break-glass box fitted, out of sight but near the door in question. You've probably seen them — round, red boxes about four inches across with glass covering a spare key. Even someone in a great hurry won't be tempted to take the key if it's behind glass, and your means of emergency escape will not have a tendency to disappear. We'll fit you a break-glass-for-key box for £50 all in, even including making an extra copy of the key. Conditions apply.
Unchaining bikes
If you've lost the last key to your bike chain, D-lock, etc. then there's little point in us taking an hour to pick the lock open. We'll remove the chain (or D-lock) for £40 all in. Do note, however, that the chain, D-lock or whatever will not be usable afterwards. Conditions apply.
Opening and changing mail boxes
For some reason, mailbox keys tend to disappear. And if you're moving in, it's quite possible that the previous people neglected to give you the key. Normally, mailbox locks aren't too difficult to open and replace, so we're offering to do it for £50, including the replacement lock. Conditions apply.
Security gates with welded locks
Sometimes, the local authority fitted security gates over final exit doors. Unless yours is a ground-floor dwelling, you should not lock these unless everyone is out. If yours is a ground-floor dwelling, you should still think very carefully and carry out a fire risk assessment before locking yourself in.
Now, being inside a harsh metal box instead of a comfy wooden mortice, gate deadlocks can shake to pieces and lock you out or lock you in.
If a gate lock has been fixed to a gate with screws, it is an easy matter to check and tighten things up (and apply thread-lock so that it doesn't shake itself to pieces again). Indeed if a gate lock is only screwed in, we'll come and carry out such a service for only £40.
However, many of these things have had their locks welded into the gates and thus can't be easily serviced to prevent a lock-out or lock-in. We are offering to grind off the old lock and then drill, tap, and screw back a new lock, all for £90.
It's possible that the gate was made with too little metal to use screws on a replacement. However, a welded-in gate lock that is starting to come apart should still be attended to. This is especially important if it's on a final exit door. We can come along and, without charge, give you an estimate for sorting it out. Conditions apply.
Conditions
- Offer only applies in the local area: SW4, SW8, SW11
- If your existing deadlock key is itself a poor copy, in other words it doesn't work smoothly, then copying it will not be included in the price of the break-glass box offer.
- The mailbox offer only applies when the mailbox is a typical metal mailbox with a wafer cam-lock. If your mailbox is a piece of 17th century, mahogany joinery, for example, the offer does not apply.
- If a gate lock doesn't have enough metal behind the faceplate screw holes, in other words they've welded the lock in because they made the lock box too big or the wrong shape, then I'm afraid the gate lock offer doesn't apply, although we can still come along and give you a free estimate for sorting it out.
- If a lock of unusual size (a Chubb 110 or its derivatives, for example) has been used in a gate, then the offer doesn't apply. Gate locks are normally Willenhall, Securefast or Aldridge.
Don't let these exclusions worry you too much. If we arrive and find that one of these conditions means that the offer doesn't apply, we will go away or give you an estimate and we won't charge you anything.
